Editor’s Note: Certain titles were deliberately left from this article’s list due to the following reasons: anything that was licensed such as Beetlejuice, Goldeneye, WWF, etc because they would never see the light of day; there are no Nintendo owned franchises like Donkey Kong; there are no games that are rumored to be coming to XBLA, which is basically Jet Force Gemini and Killer Instinct; and lastly, nothing beyond the SNES period as the purpose is for “classic” games only”.

It has been nearly thirty years now since Rare’s founding by the Stamper Bros. as Ultimate: Play the Game back in 1983. Within that time, Rare has released over one hundred games that have sold nearly 110 million units when totaled together. So with them having developed so many games and having sold so many units of software, wouldn’t it make sense to release a classic compilation disc that contained some of their best classic games? If they did, what should it contain? Here are some of the best and most logical choices…

  • Battletoads
  • Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
  • Captain Skyhawk
  • Digger T. Rock
  • Jet Pac
  • Nightshade
  • R.C. Pro-Am
  • R.C. Pro-Am 2
  • Sabre Wulf
  • Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll
  • Solar Jetman
  • Underwurlde
  • Wizards & Warriors
  • Wizards & Warriors II
  • Wizards & Warriors III

Those are the titles I would most like to see on a classic Rare compilation disc. It would be nice to see ech of them upgraded to an HD format and to include new features such as online play and leaderboards, but only if the original games as they were developed to be was also still fully intact. It wouldn’t exactly be ‘classic’ if the games weren’t still the same now would it? I think it would be wonderful to be able to boot up each of these games on the Xbox 360 or Microsoft’s next console to play them without the need of the respective systems for which they were developed for. They’re all fantastic games and deserve to have their chance in the spotlight once again. With Rare’s 30th year anniversary coming up soon, don’t you think this would be the perfect release to celebrate?

So do you all agree with the list of games? Any additional games you would like to see or any you think aren’t deserving to be there? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
